About Us

Trout Unlimited is the leading conservation organization working to care for and recover rivers and streams and the trout that call them home. We bring people together to care for their rivers and help make our water cleaner and our communities healthier.

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited has over 320 members and supporters in the Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, New Castle, Rocky Mount and other nearby communities.

As a conservation organization, the [NAME] Chapter:

  • Cares for local rivers and streams and trout populations through stream restoration projects, cleanup days, and community science programs  
  • Advocates for the protection of rivers and streams locally, as well as in unison with national TU priorities across the country
  • Stream survey in the National Forests roads looking for bridges that could be improved to allow fish and other aquatic life to get upstream.
  • Partners with national TU conservation staff, local and state agencies and regional environmental organizations to implement conservation programs, with a focus on work in TU’s Priority Waters 
  • Mobilizes the entire community to care for their waters clean up and stocking of Green Hill Park along the river and Riverside Drive.
  • Hosts regular events, social gatherings and local fishing outings that connect people with their rivers and streams 
  • Inspires the next generation with environmental education programs through the Trout in the Classroom program which includes release day
